Palchuram Project -
5.25 MW - A
small hydro electric project proposal was formulated
by Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for
harnessing the waters in a small stream called
Palchuram for hydro power generation. This Palchuram
stream is tributary of Bavelipuzha, which is also a
tributary to Valapattanam river. Though Palchuram is a
small stream, during the course of its travel, for
about 3 KM, before it joins with Bavelipuzha, it
covers a head fall of about 400 meters. This head
potential and the flow in the stream are favourable
for establishing a small Hydel project.
The
weir site is located in Tea-estate area. No dwelling
houses will be affected, due to the small impounding
of water created by the diversion weir. The area
through which water conductor system is aligned, is
covered with crops cultivation in some parts.
Since
this scheme being designed as a run-of-the the river
project, major geological problems are not expected
